Bangladesh is introduced as a colorful nation to the Mexican people



The Embassy of Bangladesh in Mexico City celebrated the 51st anniversary of the glorious Independence and National Day of Bangladesh with enthusiasm and fervor. The proceeding of the Day commenced with the hoisting of the national flag by Ambassador Abida Islam with the tune of the national anthem and paying of homage to Bangabandhu by placing a floral wreath on his bust in presence of all the officials at the chancery. Later, a special prayer was offered followed by reading out of messages by the Embassy officials of the Hon’ble President, Hon’ble Prime Minister, Hon’ble Foreign Minister, and Hon’ble State Minister for Foreign Affairs given on this occasion.


In the second segment, the Embassy organized a two-day long ‘Bangladesh Festival’ on 26 and 27 March 2022, with the assistance of the Mayor's Office of Miguel Hidalgo at the Nelson Mandela Cultural Space and Esplanade in Lincoln Park, Polanco. Ms. Lourdes Pozo Pietra Santa, Coordinator of Embassies and International Affairs, and Mr. Omar Lopez Hernandez, Coordinator for the Area of Coexistence and Culture from the Mayor's Office inaugurated the event and highly praised the rich cultural heritage of Bangladesh. Anel Nochebuena, Cultural Coordinator of the Mayor's Office visited the festival the next day.


To introduce Bangladesh to the locals, mannequins with traditional Bangladeshi costumes, handicrafts, and exportable items (ceramic, leather, jute tea, and brass items) were displayed along with leaflets with information on our trade, tourism, and bilateral relations with Mexico. The people enjoyed the traditional Bangladeshi cuisines offered by the Dhaka Biriyani restaurant in Mexico City, free henna designs, and arts from eminent Bangladeshi painters. A two-member Bangladeshi dance group from New York, USA mesmerized the audience with their colorful performance. Over 3000 visitors visited Bangladesh Festival during the weekends including Ambassadors of Azerbaijan, Indonesia, the Philippines, Nigeria, El Salvador, Finland, the DG of SRE, journalists from local media, academicians, and many more.


In the final segment, the Embassy held a National Day Reception at Hotel Sheraton on 31 March 2022 where Ms. Rosalinda Dominguez Flores, Member of Chamber of Deputies, National Parliament, and President of the Mexico- Bangladesh Friendly Group was present as the Guest of Honor including Senators, Ambassadors, high officials, and local dignitaries. Ms. Rosalinda Flores highly praised impressive socio-economic development and gender empowerment in Bangladesh in her remarks and hoped to further strengthen the friendly ties between the two nations in the future. Ambassador Abida Islam paid her rich tribute to the Father of the Nation highlighting his supreme sacrifices for the nation and underlined the ongoing socio-economic development of the country under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Bangladesh Embassy also organized a musical soiree where the renowned Bangladeshi singer Fahmida Nabi enchanted the audience with her beautiful presentation. Bangladeshi paintings, exportable items, and handicrafts were also exhibited there. The reception came to an end after offering traditional Bangladeshi cuisines, prepared by Mexican chefs, to the invited guests.
