H.E. M. Mushfiqul Fazal (Ansarey)
Ambassador of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh to the United Mexican States
Ambassador M. Mushfiqul Fazal (Ansarey) is a distinguished diplomat, journalist, and public servant with a career spanning over two decades in international relations, media, and policy advocacy. He assumed the charge as the Ambassador of Bangladesh to the United Mexican States on 27 January 2025.
Prior to his current diplomatic assignment, Ambassador Mushfiqul served as the Executive Director of Right to Freedom, a Washington-based leading organization advocating for human rights and social justice, where he played a pivotal role as one of its founding members. He led the organization until October 2024, shaping its mission and impact on global human rights initiatives. He also worked as an Executive Editor of a Washington-based foreign Policy magazine, South Asia Perspectives.
Before transitioning to diplomacy and advocacy, Ambassador Mushfiqul established himself as a prominent journalist. As Editor and White House Correspondent for Just News BD, he covered the United Nations, the U.S. State Department, and the Pentagon. His insightful reporting earned him recognition as a trusted voice on international affairs. Ambassador Mushfiqul, a staunch advocate for press freedom, faced exile due to his critical reporting on human rights violations. During this time, he worked with The Times and Sunday Times in the UK as work experience reporter, contributed to The Wire, and served as a Fellow at the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP).
Ambassador Mushfiqul began his career as a Research Assistant at Bangladesh Unnayan Parishad (BUP) in the late 1990s. He later served as Assistant Editor at Robber Publications, Assistant Press Secretary to the Prime Minister (2001-2006), Diplomatic Correspondent for the Ittefaq, Senior Reporter for United News of Bangladesh (UNB), and Anchor for the state television, BTV.
Ambassador Mushfiqul is widely known for hosting the popular television program Hello Excellency on NTV, where he interviewed over 60 ambassadors and foreign dignitaries, fostering cross-cultural understanding and dialogue. He has also acted as a guest moderator at the Wilson Center and served as a consultant for the World Bank in Washington.
Ambassador Mushfiqul is a member of several prestigious organizations, including: National Press Club of Washington, United Nations Correspondents Association, White House Correspondents Association, Bangladesh National Press Club, Foreign Press Correspondents Association.
